Accommodations

Lodging can vary from a small rustic cabin in the woods to a five star hotel, and everything in between.  We only work with local properties that take pride in their comfort and cleanliness.  These are the places we would love to stay in our visits from Denali to Seward. In Anchorage we have chosen a clean, comfortable hotel with a unique lake view.  In Talkeetna and Denali, we book rooms or cabins in big, beautiful lodges with gorgeous views of Alaska’s great mountains.  In the Seward area we offer comfy bed & breakfasts, small inns for the independent traveler, homey vacation rentals, or genuine Alaskan cabins.

Airline Tickets & Car Rentals

Most airlines from the lower 48 fly into Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage. We highly recommend Alaskan Airlines who fly direct routes from many major cities. A direct flight from Seattle takes 3 ½ – 4 hours. After a day of travel visitors usually prefer to stay one night in Anchorage before journeying to other areas of Alaska. Contact us for our favorite Anchorage accommodations.

Car rentals are available on and off the airport. We recommend renting off airport for a better deal. Call the rental car company from baggage claim and they will send a shuttle to the airport to pick you up.

Transportation

Travel around Alaska can be done by train, rental car or RV, and many locations are only accessible by small aircraft. Times are always weather and traffic dependent. The drive to Seward will take 2 ½ – 3 hours. There is only one gas station along the way in Girdwood. Without stops, the drive to Denali will take about 5 hours. Lunch in Talkeetna makes for a wonderful mid-day break.

The Alaska Railway travels north and south daily from Anchorage. The train to Seward leaves at 6:45 am and arrives around 11 am.  The return train leaves at 6 pm and arrives at 10:15 pm. The train to Denali leaves Anchorage at 8:15 am and arrives at 3:40 pm.  The return train leaves at 12:30 pm and arrives back in Anchorage at 8 pm.
